Girls Tennis:

Thanks to Maranatha for this report:

Their second meeting of the year ended up much like the first, with a comfortable (12-6) win for the Lady Minutemen.

The story of the day was the play of No. 1 singles, Natalie Arminak, who played her best match as a Lady Minuteman to date, defeating the Heralds’ No. 1 player, Sophia Levant, whom she had never beaten before.

Playing with a new level of focus, confidence, and intention, Arminak ran out to a 3-0 lead before Levant mounted an expected comeback to put the score at 3-2.

This is where the old Arminak might have succumbed to self-doubt and relinquished the lead.

But not today.

Arminak was able to regroup, play with resolve, and execute, winning the final three games to close out the day’s longest set, 6-2, which lasted well over an hour.

Nearly all other players had already played two sets before this one was complete.

Overall, singles came away with seven wins, while doubles contributed six to lead Maranatha to victory, and pushing their overall record to 10-3, and 5-1 in league.

On Thursday, the Lady Minutemen travel to Valley Christian for the Olympic League’s biggest match of the year, which will all but decide the Olympic League Champions.

The two squads split their first 2 meetings, with MHS squeeking by in the first match, 10-8, and VC eking out a 9-9 (75-73) win in the second match to even the series.

Both teams have won all their other league matches thus far.
