Football:
Rio Hondo Prep cruised to a 47-21 victory over visiting Pasadena Poly in a game that wasn’t as close as the score might indicate.
With Mark Carson at the helm, the Kares have now defeated their rival for the fifth time in the last six years.
RHP out-rushed the Panthers, 315-53, on Saturday night.
Noah Penunuri gained 85 yards on seven carries, including TD runs of 21, 1 and 53 yards.
Nathaniel Shine led all running backs with 114 yards on seven carries.
Shine had a 41-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter.
Poly quarterback Everson Mathis completed 26-of-47 for 359 yards.
Mathis found Parker Gooden on a 12-yard TD in the third quarter, and Cole Mallinger on a 9-yard scoring strike.
Mallinger caught 12 passes for 151 yards.
The Rio Hondo Prep defense picked Mathis four times (Tyler Dang, Noah Lenge, Calogero Chico & Elias Har).
Nate Curtis had a 98-yard kickoff return in the second quarter to give RHP a 27-0 lead.
