Northwood Edges Covina, 6-5, in Thursday’s CIF D-5 Quarterfinal; Timberwolves Take Advantage of Four Colts Errors

Softball:

Covina got off to a great start in the quarterfinal round of the CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs.

The Colts scored three runs in the top of the first inning at Northwood.

The Timberwolves, however, would get two runs in the bottom of the second inning, four more in the third, and held on for a 6-5 victory.

What had to be most frustrating was that Alexis Sumpter was charged with six runs, and yet only one was earned.

Sumpter went all six innings and allowing five hits.

She walked four and struck out three Northwood batters.

Natalie Keith doubled, scored and had an RBI.

Ava Giglio went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Baylie Wong walked and scored a pair of runs.

Marissa Lee singled and scored.

Samantha Mella walked and had an RBI.

Riley Bajorek went the distance for Northwood, allowing five runs on eight hits.

She walked five and fanned eight Covina batters.

Sabrina Medrano went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Janelle Valenzuela walked, singled twice and scored three runs.

Arianna Barrera walked twice and scored.

Isabell Ramirez had an RBI double.

Samantha Centeno walked, singled, scored and had an RBI.

Valerie Meza singled once for the Colts.
