Softball:

Covina didn’t waste any time in dispatching Linfield Christian on Tuesday.

The Colts pounded out an 11-1 mercy-rule victory in six innings.

Alexis Sumpter went all six and allowed just an unearned run on three hits.

Sumpter didn’t issue a walk and struck out two.

Danica Perez singled and drove in the only run of the game for the Lions.

Charli Calas doubled and scored.

Alexa Ojeda got roughed up for 11 runs on 15 hits and six walks over her five innings.

Arianna Barrera doubled twice and scored.

Maya Venegas went 3-for-3 with a walk, double and two RBIs.

Samantha Centeno walked, singled, doubled, scored and drove in a pair of runs.

Isabell Ramirez doubled and scored twice.

Sabrina Medrano went 3-for-3, with a walk, scored twice and drove in a run.

Valerie Meza singled twice, scored and had two RBIs.

Janelle Valenzuela walked, singled, scored and had an RBI.

Sumpter had one single for the Colts.

Up next: Covina will battle Northwood on Thursday.

An 11 am coin toss tomorrow (Wednesday) will determine the home team.

The Timberwolves (13-7) defeated visiting Anaheim, 5-2, in their second-round contest on Tuesday.
