After eight years atop the Prep League standings, Providence knocked Flintridge Prep off its perch in 2021-22.

Fear not Wolves fans, your girls are back on top in 2022-23.

And what better way to clinch and outright Prep League championship than to thump Poly, 85-26, on senior night.

Flintridge Prep freshman Maddie Smith actually outscored the Panthers, 30-26, on her own.

But Monday night was a celebration for senior Ashley Chea.

The Princeton-bound stud hit four 3-pointers and scored 26 points.

Chea tallied seven rebounds, 10 assists and 12 steals.

Smith had eight rebounds, five assists, seven steals and a pair of 3-pointers to go with her game-high 30 points.

Paige Lim led Poly with 11 points, and that included three 3-pointers.

The Panthers scored 13 points in the first eight minutes, and then totaled just 13 over the final three quarters.

Up next: Prep (23-2, 11-0) travels to Providence (15-8, 8-2) on Wednesday at 7:30 to close out the regular season.

Quotable:

Flintridge Prep co-head coach, Jayme Chan: “It feels great to earn our way back to the top of the Prep League. It’s fair to say that after eight years of consecutive Prep League championships, falling short last year really gave us an opportunity to step back, reevaluate, reshape, and reflect on the direction in which we want to take our program. We’ve brought on two outstanding new coaches to our staff. Amanda Delgado who was the Gatorade Player of the Year for the State of Nevada, when she was in high school, and went on to play at the University of Oregon. And Krista Arase, who is a local legend and Mark Keppel alum that played at Cal State Bakersfield. The addition of these two amazing coaches has elevated our program tremendously and has allowed Coach Kevin and I to focus on more detailed scouts and game planning. Ashley was phenomenal in her last Prep League home game. According to our unofficial stats, she was just three rebounds away from a quadruple double which is mind blowing. We’re going to miss her fiercely and I can’t wait to cheer her and Kaitlyn Chen on at Princeton.”
