Why the bleep is a 10-0 program having to travel in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs?

Better yet, why would two 10-0 teams meet in the first round?

There could be no logical answer to either question.

But Charter Oak will indeed make the 23-mile drive to Yorba Linda High School tonight (Friday) at 7.

The game features two programs that have cruised through the 2022 season.

COHS has an average margin of victory of 39-17, while YLHS has secured its 10 wins with an average final score of 36-14.

The Chargers have a 105-yard (per game) advantage in the passing game (285-180), and the Mustangs ground game tallies approximately 165 yards to 102 for COHS.

Richie Munoz has put together a 2022 season for the record books.

Munoz is 152 of 229 yards for 2,739 yards.

The Charter Oak senior has thrown 37 TD passes, and he’s only been picked twice.

Yorba Linda’s Reyn Beal is 104-of-147 for 1,740 yards and 15 TD’s.

Zakkarii Black is a dual threat for the Chargers, and could very likely serve as the X-factor in a Chargers win.

Black leads COHS with 650 yards rushing and 7 TD’s, and he’s caught 32 passes for 432 yards and five scores.

Charter Oak has five separate athletes with at least 400 receiving yards and five TD’s or more.

And that list includes: Isaiah Johnson (26 catches for 568 yards & 10 TD’s), Solomon Davis (31-495, 9 TD’s), Nathan Alvarado (25-490, 6 TD’s), Zakkarii Black (32-432, 5 TD’s) and Jayden Alexander (20-403, 5 TD’s).

Yorba Linda’s William Saucedo anchors the Mustangs ground game with 927 yards rushing on 158 carries, and he’s scored 28 TD’s.

Captain Obvious would be the first to say the program with the least number of turnovers puts itself in a prime position to extend their season.

But what seems key to this reporter is: If Zakkarii Black is able to establish the run game, the already lethal Richie Munoz should have a monster game with his long list of game-changing receivers.

Good luck to Coach Dominic Farrar, his staff and their players.

And to all the SGV area program in action tonight.
