Marshall Sweeps Desert Mirage in Second Round of CIF-SS D-9 Playoffs; Journey Blueford Leads Way w/11 Kills

Girls Volleyball:

After three days off from Thursday’s first-round victory, the Marshall Fundamental girls volleyball program took a little while to get going on Monday evening.

Originally set for Saturday, Desert Mirage requested a Monday night showdown with the Eagles.

The date was granted, but Marshall would sweep the Rams by scores of 27-25, 25-17 and 25-23.

Journey Blueford and Rory Lorenz had another strong game in the middle.

Isabella Vanegas had the pass of the game denying Desert Mirage a kill, and set up the winning point for Marshall.

Blueford had 11 kills and four blocks.

Lauren Sandoval contributed 29 assists, one ace and a block.

Lorenz added seven kills, two aces and a pair of blocks.

Evelyn Mkhitarian chipped in with seven kills and two aces.

Alexis Delgado provided six kills in the win.

Abigail Garibay had three kills and three aces, and Jaenna Sambilay finished with two aces and two assists.

Up next: The Eagles will host Hillcrest Christian on Wednesday night at 6 in the D-9 quarterfinals.

The Saints (19-8-1) defeated Academy of Careers and Exploration on Saturday in a five-set battle.
