Girls Tennis:

Though the score remained lopsided (their first meeting was 14-4), the Heralds of Whittier Christian are an improved team, as the Lady Minutemen discovered immediately.

The Heralds’ doubles teams only won 4 total games in their first encounter with MHS.

Today, they won 17 games against an also-improved Maranatha doubles squad.

MHS still swept the doubles matchup, 9-0, but it was tougher than the first meeting.

Maranatha’s singles lineup won 6 of 9 sets against an also-improved Heralds’ singles squad.

Singles:
1 Stella Hsieh – 6-0, 6-2, 6-0
2 Natalie Arminak – 6-3, 2-6, 6-0
3 Kathryn Khalil – 2-6, 1-6, 6-1

Doubles:
1 Kasey McCoy/Esmee Eaton – 6-1, 6-2, 6-2
2 Mia Huang/Mia Su – 6-0, 6-2, 6-0
3 Nelli Breuer/Marie Wolfrum – 6-4, 6-3, 6-3

On Thursday, the undefeated Lady Minutemen (10-3 overall, 6-0 in league) face off against their closest rival, the 5-1 Valley Christian Defenders, in a match with big league implications.

Should Maranatha prevail, they will secure the outright Olympic League title with one match to go.

If the Defenders pull an upset, both squads will, in all likelihood, share the title (assuming they both win their remaining matches).

MHS won their first meeting, 11-7, in a match that went down to the end.

It will also be Senior Day for the Lady Minutemen, who will honor and celebrate the careers of senior captains Stella Hsieh, Audrey Loh, and Kasey McCoy.

They would love to celebrate the occasion by securing the league championship.

The match starts at 3:30 p.m. at Pasadena High School.
