Girls Volleyball:

It literally took the entire season to do it, but that makes winning a championship even more satisfying.

In their 28th and final match of the 2022 regular season, the Glendora girls volleyball program earned the outright Palomares League championship.

But Ayala and Bonita sure made them work for it.

GHS needed and got a 25-23, 25-20, 20-25 and 25-14 victory at Ayala to clinch the title.

And they got contributions throughout their lineup.

Hailey Heflin led the Tartans attack with 15 kills and a block.

Kendra Gonzalez had five kills, 22 digs and two blocks.

Janna Yap contributed 16 digs.

Gianna Perez finished with seven kills, 13 digs and a block.

Ella Dunaway chipped in with five kills.

GHS softball pitcher, Bridget Nemeth, provided four kills and three blocks.

Brooklynne Traficante added three kills and a block in the win.

Back on September 20th, Bonita clipped the Tartans in four games in the first of two with GHS.

Ten days later, Ayala made the title chase even more interesting when they defeated the Bearcats in four.

And five days ago, in the rematch, Glendora swept visiting Bonita to take a one-match lead with one to play.

Quotable:

Glendora coach Erin Noriega: “We worked our way up from last year, focusing on mastering the basics and being aggressive. We’ve been really emphasizing emotional stability throughout the match in the last two weeks as well. Playing steady with a level head is key for our success. I’m very proud of the work these girls have put in. They 100% deserve to sit alone atop the Palomares League.”

Glendora senior, Kendra Gonzalez: “Going into this season, we all had the same goal which was to win league and there was never a moment when that goal wavered. Everyone was encouraging and supported one another. I love this team and I’m so proud of what we accomplished.”
