The Glendora High School football program must have gotten tired of hearing “what’s wrong with GHS?”

After all, the Tartans opened the season 0-3, and had scored just 24 total points.

On Thursday, however, Glendora dominated visiting Los Altos from the jump.

GHS took a 20-point lead into the half, and claimed a comfortable 34-7 victory at Citrus College.

And from the Glendora point of view, it had to be satisfying to see their offense step up and score 10 more points on Thursday than they had in the last three games combined.

Marquize Brown had a huge night.

Brown, who’s also a stud on the wrestling mat, rushed for 132 yards on 20 carries.

He also had TD runs of 4, 7 and 10 yards.

Jake Denerson was a very efficient 7-of-9 for 196 yards, and two scores.

Denerson hooked up with Kareem Esmili on a 41-yard scoring strike to get the Tartans on the board.

Denerson’s 87-yard TD pass to Robert Solis gave GHS a 20-0 lead

Solis caught three passes for 132 yards.

Brady Baeza had a 51-yard reception in the second half.

Los Altos trimmed the Tartans lead to 20-7 in the third quarter, after Alfredo Lopez caught a 53-yard TD pass from Devon Groves.

But Glendora’s D, who dominated the Conquerors throughout, would hold LAHS scoreless the rest of the way.

Ian Dover sacked Groves three times, and Christopher Solis-Lumar picked off a pass and brough it back for 37-yard pick-six, but the TD was taken off the board because of an illegal block.

It might seem odd to those outside of the program to understand why the Tartans are still optimistic about their chances in 2022.

The reason being, once they get their injured players back, including middle linebacker Evan Ellis, as well as a number of transfers that will become eligible in a couple weeks, GHS could be a tough team to beat down the stretch.

And they have a coach (Brandon Rohrer) and his staff that have their players as well prepared as anyone in the SGV area.

Up next: Glendora travels to Etiwanda next Friday at 7.
