Softball:

Eleven days after winning the school’s first CIF-SS (Division 3) softball championship, Bonita hosted Rancho Buena Vista in the first round of the CIF State Division 2 playoffs.

And after a 5-2 victory, the Bearcats have now won 11 consecutive games.

The Longhorns got single unearned runs in the first and sixth innings, but other than that, BHS junior Brooklyn Shroyer continued to silence opposing batters.

Shroyer scattered six hits, walked one and struck out nine to improve her personal record to 22-2.

Janae Combs singled, scored and had an RBI, and Keira Carvalho singled and scored for the visitors.

Carvalho was stuck with the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits in her three innings of work.

Danica Nielsen provided three scoreless innings of relief for the Longhorns.

Mireya Rico singled, doubled, scored and had two RBIs.

Kali Blount singled, scored and drove in a pair of runs.

Sofia Ortiz singled twice and scored.

Alyssa Doucette singled and scored.

Bryce Shroyer singled and had one RBI for the Bearcats.

Kailey Scott, Hailey Marquez and Lauryn Ureno had one hit apiece in Tuesday’s win.

Up next: BHS travels to Torrance on Thursday.

The top-seeded Tartars (25-8) won a 15-10 slugfest with Cathedral Catholic in their first-round contest.
