Softball:
It took the Glendora offense a little while to get going in Thursday’s first round of the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs.
But the Tartans pounded out an 11-1 victory at Hart.
Bridget Nemeth kept the Indians’ bats silence throughout.
Nemeth went the distance and allowed one run on five hits.
She walked one and struck out nine.
Of her 85 pitches, 65 went for strikes.
Tenley Sweet singled and scored for Hart.
Kate Penberthy had an RBI single.
Allison Howell was struck with the loss after allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits.
Howell went 5 2/3 innings, walked one and struck out five GHS batters.
Haley Ganino had a huge game with a single, double, grand slam in the seventh inning, and five RBIs.
Nemeth walked doubled, homered and drove in a pair of runs.
Ashley Hibbard went 3-for-4, with a run and three RBIs.
Ryan Speh singled and scored twice.
Amelie Arroyo, Allison Winovitch and MacKenzie Mackie singled and scored one run apiece.
Makenna Coleman walked, singled and scored two runs.
Up next: GHS will host Torrance on Tuesday.
The Tartars (22-7) picked up a 7-2 victory at Rio Mesa in their first-round game.

GHS coach, Mike Quiroz: “It was our day. The team’s energy was perfect. Bridget took over the game by keeping the Hart batters off balance and off the bases. We played solid defense behind her, and we hit well up and down the lineup. Several players had great hits topped off by Haley’s grand slam. All year, I’ve told them if you realize what we’re capable of, we can be a very dangerous team.”
