Coleman Mitchell Goes Seven Scoreless Innings in PCC’s 7-1 Victory at Compton; Lancers Back in First Place After Sweep of Tartars

What a Saturday it turned out to be for the Pasadena City College baseball program.

The Lancers won their fifth SCC series in five tries, and they also claimed their first conference sweep of 2022.

PCC defeated their host from Compton, 7-1, thanks to a great outing from Coleman Mitchell.

If that weren’t enough, LA Harbor defeated Mt. SAC, 11-6, which vaulted the Lancers into a two-way tie for first place with the Mounties.

Mitchell went seven scoreless innings to earn the win.

The former Monrovia stud scattered five hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out three.

Of the 80 pitches that Mitchell threw on Saturday, 48 were strikes.

Rider Gardner and Nicco Day went one inning apiece to secure the sweep.

Sevon Battle singled twice, doubled and scored, and Bryan Vichot had three singles in the loss.

Julyan Rico was saddled with the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits.

Rico went six innings, walked three and fanned one PCC batter.

Max Blessinger’s bat is still red hot.

The PCC leadoff batter singled twice, doubled, scored a pair of runs and had one RBI.

Jakob Guardado walked twice, singled and scored three times.

Jake Trabbie walked, doubled and scored.

Matt Rice walked, had an RBI single and drove in two more on sac fly’s.

Damien Ureta doubled and scored for the Lancers.

Toshiki Kuriya walked twice and had one RBI.

Up next: PCC heads to Rio Hondo College on Tuesday.
