Baseball:

Flintridge Prep took the field for the first time in nearly two weeks.

And apparently Max Brunngraber didn’t have a speck of rust from the time off.

Brunngraber was just one walk and a hit batter away from throwing a perfect game on Thursday.

But settling for a no-hitter isn’t too shabby either.

Brunngraber led the Wolves to a 3-0 victory at Alhambra.

He walked one and struck out 10 Moors’ batters.

Of the 80 pitches he threw, 55 were strikes.

Brunngraber hit Carlos Hernandez in the first inning and walked Justin Flores in the seventh.

The Flintridge Prep junior credited second baseman Dominick Schraeder with making a catch along the right-field line behind the first baseman for what looked destined to be a bloop single early in Thursday’s win.

Brunngraber struck out seven different Alhambra batters once, and he got three on strikes twice.

Damian Chacon got the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits.

Chacon went all seven innings, walked three and struck out three.

Offensively, the Wolves got all three runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Nick Gonzalez had a big game at the plate, collecting four of Prep’s seven hits.

Gonzalez went 4-for-4, with a double, run scored and RBI.

Dominick Schraeder singled and drove in a run.

Nathan Park walked, singled and scored.

And Diego Ynzunza singled and scored.

Flintridge Prep has won four consecutive and 10 of their last 11 games.

Up next: The Wolves travel to South Pasadena on Friday afternoon.

Quotable:

Flintridge Prep junior, Max Brunngraber: “My arm felt good throughout, but in the fourth inning I felt especially locked in. I didn’t really think about the no-hitter until the fifth inning. Nobody mentioned it to me in the dugout. I felt comfortable with all four of my pitches, but I really had my slider and curve working well today. We were on spring break and hadn’t played in a while, but I worked out over the break and kept myself sharp. We’re happy with the way we’re playing, but along with winning league, we really want to make a deep run in the playoffs.”
