Baseball:

To the surprise of some, Glendora finds itself in a two-way tie atop the Palomares League standings with Bonita.

For the record, nobody from within the Tartans dugout is included on that list.

But GHS picked up a three-game season sweep of visiting Alta Loma, thanks to a great outing on the mound from Braydon Wooldridge and some late-inning slugging.

Glendora picked up an 8-1 victory, despite being held scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning.

Wooldridge silenced the Alta Loma bats in his 6 1/3 innings of work.

He surrendered one run on four hits, walked one and struck out 10 Braves’ batters.

Matt Moreno got the final two outs, including one via strikeout.

Jonathan Carrillo doubled and scored for Alta Loma.

Seth Reker walked, singled and had an RBI.

Dominic Paris got the loss.

Paris was charged with seven runs (three earned) on 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings.

The first four batters in the Tartans’ lineup went a combined 7-for-14, with five runs and five RBIs.

Joseph Gilkeson singled and hit a two-run HR for GHS.

Troy Estrada singled, doubled and scored.

Wooldridge had a two-run single and a sac fly.

Moreno singled twice and scored two runs.

Michael Moses singled and drove in a pair of runs.

Brandon Kiesendahl singled and scored.

John Norell and Brady Baeza scored one run apiece for GHS.

Up next: GHS will host Murrieta Mesa on Saturday at 1.

Quotable:

Glendora senior, Braydon Wooldridge: “I feel like I pounded the zone and threw as many strikes as possible to keep my defense engaged. Joe had a big two-run blast, Michael Moses had a clutch two-run single, and the offense in general really got going and battled late in the game. I’ve thought we could work our way into contention in league, so I’m not surprised, but we’ll need to continue to work hard. I still feel like we need to stay focused throughout every game, but to beat a team three times in this league is a big positive.”
