Baseball:

Etiwanda pitching has been outstanding all week, but the Eagles didn’t have anything to show for it.

On Monday, EHS dropped a 1-0, eight-inning decision at Walnut.

And 24 hours later, Reno outlasted Etiwanda, 2-1, in tournament play.

With one final dress rehearsal before opening Baseline League play on Monday, the Eagles wanted, needed and got some momentum.

Brady Ebel, a freshman, and in his first career start, threw a no-hitter in a 7-0 victory.

He walked three, struck out seven Ramona batters and needed just 83 pitches to finish what he started.

Brady Turzer got the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits.

He walked two and struck out one.

Ebel helped his own cause at the plate.

He walked twice, had a pair of singles, scored and drove in two runs.

Armando Briseno went 3-for-4, with two runs scored.

Parker Sobiesiak walked, singled and scored three runs.

Tyler McEvoy singled twice, drove in two runs and scored.

Luke Mariscal had two RBIs on Wednesday.

Up next: The Eagles will open Baseline League play on Monday at Damien.

Quotable:

Etiwanda coach, Don Furnald: “Brady did an outstanding job today of throwing strikes early in counts. What an accomplishment for a freshman in his first high school start to throw a no-hitter. “I was happy the bats got back on track today as we go into Baseline League play Monday!”

Etiwanda pitcher, Brady Ebel: “It’s an exciting feeling to go out and help our team win a game. Throwing a no-hitter is something I will always remember about my first high school start!”
