Story by Harry Joe:

Rio Hondo Prep and Providence met up with first place in the Prep League on the line.

And it took 10 innings to decide a winner.

RHP got two runs in the top of the 10th to defeat Providence, 5-3, and the Kares take over sole possession of the league’s penthouse.

Tatiana Foor went the distance for RHP, allowing three runs on seven hits.

She walked four and struck out six.

The game’s defining moment came in the bottom of the ninth inning.

With the bases loaded and one out, Providence hit a fly ball to left field.

Avery Pollock made the catch and fired home to nail the potential game-winning runner at the plate.

Pollock wasn’t done there.

She tripled in two runs in the top of the 10th that ended up being the difference.

In all, Pollock went 2-for-5, with three RBIs.

Lucia Mosquera went four innings and allowed two runs on two hits.

She walked one and fanned four RHP batters.

Olyvia Rutter surrendered three runs (two earned) on four hits.

Rutter walked three and struck out eight.

Madison Metz homered in the fourth to tie the game, and then she drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the seventh inning with two outs to catch Providence again.

The RHP offense included singles by Raychel Chang, Emma Carson and Elle Curtis.

Up next: RHP will travel to Mayfield on Tuesday.
