College Baseball:
Mt. SAC took an 8-2 lead into the eighth inning of Tuesday’s SCC showdown with visiting Rio Hondo College, and held on for an 8-5 victory.
The game featured 13 combined runs, 23 hits and six errors.
Michael Flores got the win, after going five innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits.
He walked one and fanned six.
Damian Torres provided three innings of relief, allowing just one run on three hits.
Torres did not issue a walk and struck out two.
Kegan Wentz and Trent Merrill combined to get the final three outs.
Gabriel Rico went 3-for 5, with a double, run scored and RBI.
Josep Angulo walked, singled, doubled and drove in a run.
Jordan Salgado went 2-for-4, with an RBI.
Nolan Anguiano and Rafael Flores singled and scored one run apiece.
Diego Flores doubled and scored and Jonathan Zarate singled and scored.
Aaron Gutierrez had an RBI single in the loss.
Steven Alvarez got the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits over his four innings.
He walked two and struck out one.
Will Bermudez walked, singled twice and scored two runs.
Elijah Pelayo singled, scored and drove in two runs.
Blake Borgogno tripled and scored.
Nin Burns doubled, scored two runs and had an RBI.
CJ Ontiveros went 2-for-4 and scored one run.
Brent Cota walked, had an RBI single and drove in another on a sac fly.
Cristian Enriquez singled and had an RBI on a sac fly in the third inning to give Mt. SAC a 3-0 lead.
Up next: Mt. SAC will travel to Rio Hondo College on Thursday.
