Girls Basketball:

Who: Porterville vs La Salle
What: CIF State Division 3 So Cal Regional Final
Where: La Salle High School
When: Tuesday at 6

The La Salle girls basketball program has already written itself into the history books after claiming the first CIF-SS girls hoops title in school history.

They defeated Cerritos, 46-33, back on February 26th.

The Lancers, however, aren’t satisfied just yet.

The girls from Pasadena are just one win away from playing for a CIF State Division 3 championship.

La Salle will host Porterville tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 6 in the So Cal Regional Final.

The Lancers and Panthers both won CIF-SS and CIF-Central Division championships, respectively.

Porterville’s margin of victory in 2021-22 is 60-38, while La Salle (52-33) wins by an average of 19 points.

The Panthers, who will make the 166-mile drive to Pasadena, are led offensively by a pair of seniors.

Nseike Ortiz is their stud.

Ortiz averages team-highs in points (17), rebounds (7) and assists (5).

Gracie Magana contributes 14 points, three rebounds, four steals and two assists per game.

After Ortiz and Magana, Porterville’s offense drops off significantly, at least statistically.

The Lancers seem to be far more balanced.

Sophomore Audrey Chen averages 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Ryann Riddle, also a sophomore, contributes 11 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Freshman Kaden Cortes chips in with 11 points and three rebounds.

Reese Wong provides nine points, four rebounds and three assists, and Ellie Chen, who made her triumphant return from injury, is averaging eight points, four rebounds and three assists for the Camino Real League and CIF-SS Division 3AA champions.

The winner of tomorrow night’s showdown will face the Oakland Tech-Lincoln victor on Friday at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.

The tip for the D-3 state championship game is set for 2 p.m.
