Girls Wrestling
What a weekend for the SGV area girls wrestlers.
They left Bakersfield with 10 placers, including three state championships.
Arroyo’s Brianna Gonzalez earned the 101-pound title by defeating Kaelani Shufeldt (Marina), 5-1.
Walnut’s Anaya Falcon claimed a 5-2 decision over Nyla Valencia (Sobrato), 5-2, to win the 106-pound championship.
Jo Forman (Montclair) edged Marina’s Alexandra Lopez, 9-7, to win a state championship at 143 pounds.
Paige Morales (Central) defeated Arroyo’s Emilie Gonzalez, 5-0, in the 106-pound title match.
In the 150-pound finals, Whitney’s Leah Brown (Whitney) pinned Northview’s Savannah Lewis in 39 seconds.
Leilani Lazaro (116) pinned Isabel Perez at 3:42 to claim fifth.
Esperanza Dorantes pinned Tehya Ledesma at 2:41 to place fifth at 126 pounds.
Hailey Chapman (Rim of the World) defeated San Dimas’ Cameron Ortiz, 5-2 in the 131-pound third-place match.
Walnut’s Jasmine Macias (126) and San Dimas’ Juliana Marquez (160) dropped their seventh-eighth place match.
