Boys Soccer:

Thanks to a ludicrous Mission Valley League rule about how a tiebreaker is settled, Marshall Fundamental had to play a wild-card game on Wednesday.

The Eagles, however, didn’t whine like this reporter, went out and defeated visiting Ontario Christian, 1-0, in a Division 6 playoff game.

As usual, Eduardo Reyes was Marshall’s offense.

Reyes’ second-half goal was the difference.

Rayshon Robert had five crucial saves in goal for Marshall.

Up next: The Eagles will travel to Elsinore on Friday.

The Tigers (1-5-2) had a first-round bye, and were the Inland Valley League champions.

Marshall enters their second postseason game on a five-game win streak, while lsinore has just a one-game win streak.

Quotable:

Marshall Fundamental coach, Erick Rodriguez: “The team played well. We held possession throughout against a team that looked like a .500 team, but defensively were not. They were much tougher defensively and counter attacked us with some success at times. Mentally, we were well prepared for a win and we knew that we needed to maintain focus throughout. We could not break their defense until minute 20 of the second half. An amazing run by Eduardo Reyes, into their box, where he blasted a goal above the keeper’s head and through his hands was the result of that action. After that was much of the same, missed opportunities by us and a great defensive stand by Ontario Christian. Glad when the game was over and finishes at 1 nil score. Next up is Elsinore, at Lake Elsinore, Friday night. No time has been agreed upon yet.”

Box Score:
OC: 0-0-(0)
MF: 0-1-(2)

Records: Ontario Christian (7-7-8); Marshall Fundamental (15-2-2)
