Eduardo Reyes Scores Twice in Marshall Fundamental’s 3-2 Victory Over Mountain View; Eagles Finish 10-1-1 in Mission Valley League Games

Boys Soccer:

Marshall Fundamental closed out the regular season on Thursday with a 3-2 victory over visiting Mountain View.

The win improves the Eagles to 10-1-1 in MVL games.

Marshall’s record matches that of Arroyo, but because of a completely ludicrous MVL rule, the Knights head to the playoffs as the league’s top seed.

To add insult to injury, Arroyo and Marshall split their two-game series, with both programs claiming victories at home.

So, you’re probably thinking, oh, there’s got to be a tiebreaker where Arroyo probably had a greater margin of victory.

They did not.

The Knights and Eagles won by two goals apiece against the other.

You might be thinking, Arroyo probably scored more goals in league than did Marshall.

Actually, MF has a 44-36 edge in MVL goals scored.

Are you ready for the antiquated tiebreaker?

The winner of the second of two games finishes as league champions.

Leaders within the MVL schools should come together and decide on a tiebreaker than makes sense so this doesn’t happen again.

If you think being a No.2 seed from league isn’t that bad, and that I’m blowing this up into something bigger than it is, consider the fact that many times a No. 2 seed opens the playoffs on the road with a better opponent statistically than does the league champs.

Any way, back to Thursday’s regular-season finale.

Marshall got a pair of second-half goals from their stud, Eduardo Reyes.

Victor Camacho scored in the first half.

Rayshon Robert had nine saves in goal.

Up next Marshall Fundamental will get its playoff pairing on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
