Ayala had to wait nearly two weeks longer than expected to open its Palomares League schedule, but the Bulldogs made the most of it.
Bonita and Ayala were originally slated to play on January 4, but COVID-19 pushed it back to Monday night.
In just their second game since December 30th, Ayala defeated Bonita, 80-64, to open league play 1-0.
The Bulldogs’ Zach Murphy scored 15 of his game-high 28 points in the second half.
Nathan Cipriano contributed 20 points and Jermaine Rogers added 15 points in the win.
Colton Perez had a team-high 17 points for Bonita.
Jake Quintana finished with 14, Josh Kim had 12 and Luke Smith chipped in eight points for the Bearcats.
Ayala outscored Bonita, 21-3, from behind the 3-point line.
Up next: Bonita and Ayala will be in action tonight (Tuesday).
The Bearcats host Alta Loma (13-8, 0-3), and the Bulldogs travel to first-place Colony (16-1, 3-0).
