Baseball:
Three days after dropping their first Pacific League game of the 2025 season, Crescenta Valley hosted Burroughs on Friday evening.
The Bears and Falcons entered the game with identical 8-1 records in league games.
And CV would outlast BHS, 3-2, in nine innings.
Kyle Smith went four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits.
Smith walked five and fanned five CV batters.
Kenny Montgomery provided three scoreless innings in relief and allowing three hits.
Montgomery issued three walks and registered three strikeouts.
Ryan Walsh was stuck with the loss after surrendering an unearned run on two hits and a walk in the ninth inning.
The Falcons loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth inning.
Ryan Shabazian opened the inning with a walk.
Four batters later, Dashiell Schultz would single home Shabazian with the game-winning run.
Schultz had three of Crescenta Valley’s 12 hits.
Dante Cerecedes went 3-for-4 with a walk and one run.
Charlie Carafotes drew three walks and singled.
Shabazian walked twice, singled and scored the game winning run.
Mike Herman, Gunner Herman and Jimmy Spears had one single apiece for CV.
Chris Torres singled and had an RBI ground out.
Mike Herman went 4 2/3 innings, and he was charged with two runs on seven hits.
Herman didn’t walk anyone and struck out five.
Sam Sellars got the win after providing 4 1/3 scoreless innings in relief, and he allowed one hit.
Sellars didn’t issue a walk, and he registered two strikeouts.
Jack Smith tripled in a run in the top of the fourth inning.
Zackary Guevara went 2-for-3, including an RBI single in the fifth to give Burroughs a 2-1 lead.
Andrew Cosio singled and scored.
Chase Robinson singled and scored.
Slater Mersola had a pair of singles.
Jacob Rauenswinder singled in the loss.
