It’s been said the true measure of one’s character is the way in which we respond to our failures.
Heading into the final week of the regular season, Northview needed just a win over a Los Altos program that was 1-8 to claim the outright Valle Vista League championship.
Unfortunately for the Vikings, the Conquerors claimed a 29-28 victory, and the punishment for that loss was a first-round road game in the CIF-SS Division 10 playoffs.
Instead of making excuses or pouting, however, Northview made the 34-mile trip to Garden Grove and handed the Argonauts a 30-14, season-ending defeat.
The Vikings rushed for 374 yards on 38 carries to control both Garden Grove and the clock.
Cheo Medina led the way with 209 rushing yards on 20 carries, and that included a pair of TD’s.
Ronal Tebo Jr., carried the ball 14 times for 122 yards, and had two TD’s of his own.
James Arellanes completed 4 of his 5 pass attempts for 68 yards in the win.
Erik Saiz caught one pass for 25 yards, Mike Cervantes had a 23-yard reception, and Steve Carlin reeled in a 13-yard pass from Arellanes.
Up next: The Vikings will host Kaiser on Friday night at Covina District Field.
The Cats (5-5) defeated South Torrance, 49-28, in their first-round contest.
