Football:
St. Francis didn’t just beat undefeated Irvine in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs.
The Golden Knights dominated the Vaqueros, 47-20, on Friday night.
SFHS outscored Irvine, 30-7, in the second quarter, and the Golden Knights defense shut out the Vaqueros in the second half.
Max Garrison continues to drop jaws with his athleticism.
Garrison rushed for 227 yards on just 13 carries.
And that included TD runs of 80, 5, 79 and 5 yards.
Jack Jacobs completed 15 of his 20 pass attempts for 187 yards.
Jacobs hit Myles Shannon on a 26-yard TD pass to give the Golden Knights a 37-20 lead at the half.
The St. Francis quarterback also rushed for 40 yards, including a 2-yard TD in the third quarter.
Shannon caught five passes for 70 yards and that diving TD reception.
Daniel Hara had five receptions for 52 yards.
Mayze Bryant picked off an Irvine pass in the fourth quarter.
Up next: The Golden Knights will travel to Temecula on Friday and battle Chaparral.
The Pumas (8-4) shut out Palm Desert, 23-0, in their first-round game.

St. Francis senior, Max Garrison: “I think it was a great team win. We made some mistakes, but this is a special group of guys and I’m glad that we came out with the win. We ran the ball well, and our pass game contributed as well. Our defense shut them down in the second half, which was great to see. It was definitely an emotional win for me, because it was my first high school playoff win and the first without Coach (Jim) Bonds.”
