Football:

It goes without saying that all 11 players on the football field are vital in making a program successful.

And then there are guys like Braydon Brus, who can end an opponent’s season because he’s just that good.

The Northwestern University commit took over Friday’s CIF-SS Division 3 first-round contest with visiting Downey, as Glendora cruised to a 35-14 victory.

The 2021 Tartans, the first-ever in school history to finish the regular season 10-0, won their eleventh consecutive game.

Brus had two first quarter TD’s and the Tartans scored the game’s first 28 points before the Vikings were able to get on the board before halftime.

The GHS senior sprinted in from 34 yards out to give Glendora a 7-0 lead, and later in the quarter, Brus brought a punt back 55 yards for a score.

Zach Ford’s second-quarter, 14-yard TD run extended the GHS lead to 21-0.

Brus gave the Tartans a 28-point advantage when he out-ran the Downey defenders on a race to the end zone from 25 yards out.

And to cap his night in the clip above, Brus had a 10-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

Brus finished with 172 rushing yards on 24 carries and Zach Ford gained 60 yards on 11 carries.

Trey Byrd picked off a Downey pass and AJ Salazar recovered a fumble.

Once again, the GHS defense took center stage as well.

The SGV’s most stingy defense statistically held Downey to 22 points under its weekly scoring average.

Up next: GHS will travel to Apple Valley next Friday.

The Sun Devils (9-3) knocked off top-seeded Citrus Valley, 21-16, on Friday.
