With a pair of Angelus League programs that average over 30 points per game in 2021, no one could have predicted what happened on Friday night.

St. Francis and Loyola met up in La Canada with at least a share of the league championship at stake.

The Golden Knights got a 24-yard field goal from Clint Geryak in the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead.

With 2:26 to play in the third quarter, Loyola sophomore, Mark Hyan, tied the game on a 36-yard field goal of his own.

Heading into the fourth quarter, both the Cubs and Golden Knights had blocked one field goal attempt apiece.

But, with just six seconds to play, Hyan booted a 20-yard field goal and Loyola would defeat St. Francis, 6-3.

With one game to play in the regular season, Loyola holds a one-game lead over St. Paul and St. Francis for the league’s top spot.

And the Cubs will host the Swordsmen next Friday.
