Girls Tennis:
In their second league match, the short-handed Lady Minutemen had to come together to overcome three forfeited sets due to the absence of singles player, Violet Salvo.
With a team of only nine players, Maranatha has no alternates, and thus, no wiggle room at all – if one player is missing, that results in automatically forfeited sets.
Having to adjust their lineup, Maranatha’s aim was to sweep singles and win a couple of doubles sets.
And that’s exactly what they did.
No. 1 singles, Stella Hsieh, led the way with her third triple bagel (6-0, 6-0, 6-0) of the season.
No. 2 Audrey Loh nearly matched Hsieh, losing only one game (6-0, 6-0, 6-1).
MHS’s top doubles player, Amanda Yee, slid into the No. 3 singles spot and swept (6-2, 6-0, 6-3).
Riley McCoy/Stella Chen moved into the No. 1 spot today and pulled out one 6-4 victory, after losing a very tight opening set to the Warriors’ #1, 6-7(6).
Newly paired No. 2, Kasey McCoy/ Esmee Eaton also pulled out a close one in a tie-break, 7/6(4).
Up next: the Lady Minutemen (4-4, 1-1) is a road match against Valley Christian on Thursday.
Both teams are currently tied for second in the Olympic League with 1-1 records.
