Football:
When you out-rush your opponent 268 to minus-one, the likelihood of winning is pretty much a foregone conclusion.
Rio Hondo Prep made the two-hour trip to Linfield Christian and the Kares dominated throughout in Saturday’s 44-9 victory over the Lions.
RHP scored the game’s first 44 points before Linfield Christian got a field goal and a passing TD late in the fourth quarter.
Gio Ortega showed just how versatile he is by scoring in three different ways.
Ortega caught a 24-yard TD pass from Damyan Diaz just 128 seconds into the game.
He also returned a punt 80 yards for a score, and Ortega’s 52-yard rushing TD in the third quarter upped the Kares lead to 37-0.
Jonathan Guerrero rushed for 104 yards on nine carries, and that included an 18-yard TD in the first quarter.
Calvin Johnson carried the ball eight times for 82 yards, and Johnson had a 2-yard TD.
Ryan McCulloch had an 11-yard TD and 38 yards rushing on six carries.
Trevor Scott booted a 34-yard field goal in the win.
Paul Alena and McCulloch had 4.5 tackles apiece, and Alena registered a sack.
The Kares have now outscored their opponent by a combined margin of 238-53.
Up next: RHP will travel to Rosemead next Saturday to take on Bosco Tech.
The Tigers (2-3) dropped a 35-8 decision at Capistrano Valley Christian.
