After four consecutive blowout victories over Los Altos (35-0), Diamond Ranch (42-7), Los Osos (40-21) and Tustin (42-7), Ayala finally got a solid challenge on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs grinded and grounded out a 31-21 nonleague victory at La Habra.

Ayala’s ground game accounted for 166 yards on 48 carries and one TD.

The turning point came midway through the fourth quarter.

Leading 24-21, and with less than seven minutes to go, Ayala was facing a fourth-and-three scenario.

AHS coach Arthur Gracia decided to go for it, and CJ Sento made Gracia look wise.

Sento got four yards on the play.

Later in the drive, and on third-and-goal, Bryan Wilson hit Chandler Carthan on a 5-yard TD to put the game on ice.

Jacob Munoz finished with a game-high 65 yards on 11 carries.

Munoz would also pick off a La Habra pass on the last play of the game.

Sento had 35 yards on 13 carries.

Wilson is now 11-0 as the Bulldogs quarterback, and the Ayala sophomore finished 7 of 17 for 84 yards and three scores.

Dominic Alloway, Marquis Monroe, and Chandler Carthan each caught a TD pass in the win.

Monroe had a huge impact in Ayala staying perfect.

He caught a 36-yard TD pass from Wilson, carried the ball 10 times for 44 yards, and had a late-game pick on defense.

La Habra quarterback Justin Gil completed 13 of his 31 pass attempts for 147 yards.

Gil threw for one TD and was picked twice.

Jacob Apodaca had a pair of catches for 32 yards and a TD.

Up next: The Bulldogs will travel to Citrus College next Friday to take on their former Palomares League foes from Glendora (5-0).

Box Score:
A: 10-7-7-7-(31)
LH: 7-7-7-0-(21)
