Arcadia Freshman Fanbei Xu Boots 15-Yard FG as Time Expired to Lead Apaches to 30-28 Victory at La Salle

Talk about drama, late-game heroics and perseverance showed by both teams.

Arcadia had what seemed to be a comfortable 20-0 lead at La Salle on Thursday night.

But the Lancers fought all the way back to tie the game at 20-20 in the fourth quarter.

The Apaches regained the advantage at 27-20 with seven minutes to play.

And again, La Salle battled back, and even had the stones to go for and succeeded on the 2-point attempt.

At that point, the Lancers took their first lead of the game at 28-27.

The game, however, would be decided by who had the ball last.

After stringing together a drive and using a time out, Arcadia freshman Fanbei Xu would convert on a short field goal as time expired to give the Apaches a 30-28 victory.

Jonathan Maldonado was solid throughout for Arcadia.

Maldonado completed 12 of 20 passes for 122 yards and two scores.

He also rushed for 79 yards and had three sacks and batted down two balls on defense.

Ty Pierson led the AHS ground game with 111 yards on 18 carries, and he scored one TD.

Ray Luong and Pierson both had 24 yards receiving and caught one TD apiece.

Derek Ganter finished with three receptions for 50 yards in the win.

Ganter also had a team-high eight tackles for AHS, and Luke Turpin had seven.

For La Salle, Richie Munoz went 20 of for 31 for 276 yards.

Munoz threw four TD passes and was picked twice.

The Lancers’ junior had a team-high 30 yards rushing on three carries.

Mauricio Pavon had a monster game with nine receptions for 109 yards and two TD’s.

David Mysza caught a 51-yard TD from Munoz.

Will Clougherty caught two passes for 44 yards, including one TD, and Rashaad Austin had two catches for 33 yards.

Sean Munoz finished with 21 yards receiving and one score.

John Alvarez led the La Salle defense with nine tackles, and Matthew Gamble had eight tackles and a sack.

Thomas Gomez and Adam Pavon had seven tackles each for the Lancers.

Up next: La Salle will travel to University High School this coming Friday, and Arcadia will face off with Burroughs in two weeks (October 1) in the Pacific League opener for the Apaches.
