The Spartans’ two losses came by a total of five points and to the No. 17 and 12th ranked teams in the state by MaxPreps.
After a two-point, season-opening loss to Loyola, Damien traveled to La Canada and put a 42-17 beatdown on St. Francis.
Three nights ago, the Spartans fell, 41-38, in overtime, to visiting Orange Lutheran, in a back-and-forth shootout that will serve Damien well in the playoffs.
Damien actually took a three-point lead on a short field goal in overtime, but O-LU secured the walk-off victory when Logan Gonzalez threw his fourth TD of the game to keep the Lancers undefeated.
Dylan Gutierrez threw for north of 300 yards and had four TD’s for the Spartans.
Up next: Damien will host Oaks Christian on Thursday night.
The Lions (0-4) are coming off a 56-21 beatdown at the hands of Alemany on Friday evening.
