Football:

Boron made a 104-mile drive on Friday to take on unbeaten Rio Hondo Prep.

When the Bobcats got a 15-yard TD pass from Braeden Wolfe to Jason Richardson midway through the first quarter, it marked the first this season that RHP actually trailed in a game.

Not to worry, though, as the Kares would score the game’s next 46 points and claimed a 46-18 victory.

RHP got five total TD’s from their star running back, Jonathan Guerrero.

Guerrero rushed for 137 yards on nine carries, and that included TD runs of 4, 49, 4 and 43 yards.

Guerrero also caught a 3-yard pass from Damyan Diaz to give him five scores on Friday night.

RHP had 421 yards of total offense, as compared to 209 for Boron.

Damyan Diaz completed four of his six pass attempts for 99 yards, including the TD pass to Guerrero.

Armando Carbajal went 2-of-4 for 56 yards.

Carbajal connected with Ryan McCulloch on a 51-yard scoring strike.

Gio Ortega had two receptions for 41 yards.

Isiah Morgan led the Bobcats with 104 yards rushing on 18 carries.

Along with the receiving TD, McCulloch also scored on a 4-yard run.

McCulloch led the Kares defense with 6.5 tackles.

Jayden Sanchez (6 tackles), Gio Ortega (5.5) and Ray Montez (4.5) all played big on the defensive side of the ball.

In their first three games, RHP has outscored Poly, Verdugo Hills and Boron by a combined margin of 139-30.

Up next: RHP will host Temple City next Friday.

Quotable:

Rio Hondo Prep coach, Mark Carson: “It was a physical game, and our guys enjoy that. Boron came out with a great first drive, and I like how we responded. JG (Jonathan Guerrero) was incredible, as was our offense all night. We’re off to the start we envisioned, but have a lot to work to do. Our toughest games are ahead of us.”
