Thanks to Maranatha High for this report:

Girls Tennis:

In their season opener, the Lady Minutemen met the Panthers of Yeshiva University of Los Angeles (YULA) for their first ever meeting (or at least in the modern era) at Whittier Narrows Tennis Center.

Maranatha was only able to field eight players and spotted YULA a 3-0 lead to start the match, due to forfeiting three sets.

Despite the disadvantage, MHS played a well-balanced match and was paced by their singles line-up of #1 Stella Hsieh (6-0, 6-0, 6-0), #2 Amanda Yee (6-4, 6-0, 6-0), and #3 Audrey Loh (6-1, 6-0, 6-1)

The doubles teams of #1 Kasey McCoy/Violet Salvo and #2 Riley McCoy/Stella Chen both went 2-1 on the day, compiling identical score lines of 2-6, 6-1, 6-0.

These victories also marked the first-ever victories of each of these doubles players’ careers, the first full season for each of them.

This year’s Division 5 squad is very new to the sport of tennis and will be looking to gain experience and learn quickly as the season progresses.

Up next: The Lady Minutemen is the formidable Division 3 Lady Aztecs of Mark Keppel on Tuesday, September 7 at Mark Keppel HS.
