Baseball:
When Bonita scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning on Saturday afternoon, it turns out the benefit was more than just extending their season.
The Bearcats claimed a 7-4 victory at Los Alamitos in the quarterfinal round of the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs.
When Bonita coach Ryan Marcos got back to his Glendora home, he found out that Bonita has already qualified for the state playoffs.
It’s something the school has never done in baseball, and they believe it might be the first time a SGV team has qualified.
The State championship playoffs will take place between June 22-26, and Division 1-3 semifinalists qualify to play.
Bonita is submitting their program information to play in the tournament.
“The guys are fired up to have qualified for state playoffs,” Marcos said. “Our fans, faculty & staff, and surrounding community members are buzzing as well. Bonita baseball players are continuing to show determination and grit in the face of adversity. We couldn’t be more proud of this group and we’re not done yet.”
