Azusa Jumps on Victor Valley Early & Cruises to 10-5 Victory in Second Round of CIF-SS Division 6 Playoffs

Azusa, which is having their best season in recent memory, grinded out a one-run victory over Indio in Thursday’s first round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs.

Two days later, the Aztecs eliminated any drama by scoring early and defeating Victor Valley, 10-5.

Azusa got six runs in the top of the third inning to take a 7-1 lead and they never looked back.

Iliana Cardenas earned the victory in the circle after six innings of work.

Cardenas allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits.

Juliana Canizales closed the door with a scoreless seventh inning.

Jocelyn Webster went 2-for-3, with a double, two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

Amanda Sera singled and drove in two runs.

Alaysia Ross was saddled with the loss, allowing seven runs (five earned) on five hits over her 2 1/3 innings.

Angelian Correos walked, tripled, scored twice and had an RBI.

Gwendalyn Rivas walked, singled and scored, and Breanna Rodriguez doubled and scored.

Alona Sanchez walked, singled, scored and drove in a run.

Cardenas walked twice and singled.

Raelene Rodriguez had a big day with two singles, two RBIs and a run scored.

Alyssa Ceballos went 3-for-4, scored and had an RBI.

Natalie Sosa walked, singled and drove in two runs.

Mia Pedroza had an RBI in the win.

Up next: Azusa will face the Monrovia-Orange Vista winner this coming Tuesday in the quarterfinal round.
