Baseball:
Just when it looked like West Covina was catching up in Wednesday’s Valle Vista League showdown with Northview, the Vikings put it away.
Northview took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning and West Covina responded with three runs to pull within 4-3.
But the Vikings got nine runs in the top of the fifth and defeated the Bulldogs, 13-3, in five innings.
Ethan Galindo got the win for Northview, going 3 2/3 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits.
He walked two and struck out five.
Tyson Patrick went 1 1/3 scoreless and hitless innings for Northview and struck out two.
Jesse Chavez doubled, scored and had an RBI for WCHS.
Joey Polano walked twice and scored.
Adrian Gayosso went 2-for-2, with an RBI.
Kevin Jimenez got the loss.
Jimenez surrendered eight runs (six earned) on six hits.
He walked three and struck out four.
Northview got to Edwin Segovia for five runs (one earned) on four hits.
Segovia walked three and struck out one.
Dean Curley singled, tripled, scored three runs and had an RBI.
Eligh Hidalgo walked twice, doubled, drove in one run and scored three runs.
Andrew Baltazar went 3-for-4, with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs.
Sal Batres walked, doubled, drove in two runs and scored.
Ivan Barragan had two doubles, two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.
Micah Hidalgo had an RBI base hit.
Nick Peoples walked twice, had an RBI and run scored.
Up next: Northview will host West Covina on Friday.
