Baseball:
Two of the San Gabriel Valley’s premier programs met up Saturday afternoon and it was only fitting that it took eight innings to decide a winner.
Jonathon Hernandez played the hero in a 2-1 victory.
Hernandez walked, singled, doubled, scored and drove in the game winner in the eighth inning.
His eighth-inning double scored Andrew Ramirez.
Luca Cuneo got the loss after allowing the eighth-inning run.
In all, Cuneo went 1 1/3 innings, surrendering two hits and two walks.
Anthony Rasmussen walked twice, singled and drove in a run.
Marcos Rosales walked and doubled.
Ramirez went 3-for-4, with a walk and scored the game winner.
Sterling Patick got the win after going three innings and allowing an unearned run on one hit.
He walked one and struck out three CV batters.
Up next: South Hills will travel to Rowland on Tuesday afternoon in a Hacienda League contest.
