Baseball:

It looked like Wednesday’s Valle Vista League opener between perennial powers San Dimas and Northview would be a marquee match up.

But the Saints squashed all the drama early by scoring five first-inning runs and cruising to an 11-1 victory in six innings.

Matt DesMarets went all six innings to earn the win.

He allowed one run on five hits, walked three and struck out four Vikings’ batters.

Andrew Baltazar was the only real threat for DesMarets.

Baltazar doubled and hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning.

Eligh Hidalgo singled twice and Dean Curley went 1-for-3.

Luke Bauer was stuck with the loss after allowing six runs on six hits over his 1 2/3 inning outing.

San Dimas got four more off Tyson Patrick on three hits and two walks.

Landon White went 3-for-3, with a walk, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Tyler Pardus singled twice, scored and drove in three runs.

Ryder Young walked twice, singled twice, scored and had an RBI.

Ryan Kim singled and scored two runs, Matt Rice walked, singled, drove in a run and scored twice, and Ayden Garcia had a two-run double.
