California got a solid start from Wil Valenzuela and the Condors bats did the rest in Friday’s 9-5 victory over Charter Oak.
Valenzuela went the first 4 1/3 innings and allowed just one run on two hits.
He walked two, struck out five and earned the win.
Charter Oak got four runs off Gehrig Gardner over the final 2 2/3 innings.
Matt Salgado singled and drove in two runs.
Evan Avitia singled twice and scored.
Chris Ceballos walked, singled, scored and had an RBI.
Diego Ortiz singled, scored and had an RBI.
Dave Montoya walked and had an RBI base hit.
Ethan Milleson singled and scored, and Nathan Arevelos walked and scored.
Chris Ceballos was stuck with the loss.
The Chargers’ senior surrendered six runs (five earned) on nine hits.
Jimmie Duarte went 3-for 4 from the leadoff spot and scored twice for the Condors.
Noah Castillo walked, doubled twice, scored two runs and had two RBIs.
Gehrig Gardner singled twice, scored and drove in a run.
Gabe Oropeza went 3-for-3, with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI.
Ben Montanez singled and drove in a pair of runs in the win.
Nick Jimenez singled and scored, and then Isaiah Moreno and Robert Verdugo had RBI base hits for Cal.
