Marshall Fundamental waited almost a year to get back on the baseball field.

And while no parents or fans were allowed, this ascending program didn’t skip a beat from the time off.

The Eagles rode the strong right arm of Travis Delgado and cruised to a 12-1 victory over Providence.

Evan Jaquez picked up the loss after four innings of work.

The Pioneers starter allowed seven runs (two earned) on four hits.

He walked two and struck out seven Eagles’ batters.

Marshall got five more off Andrew Malong in his two innings of work.

Alex Chew had a big game, including a three-run double and two runs scored.

Sam Karp doubled, walked and scored twice, and Tylr Kennedy was credited with three RBIs.

Caleb Delgado and Devan Kelly singled and scored and Delgado also added an RBI.

Jacob Hernandez went 1-for-3 from the leadoff spot, including two runs and an RBI.

Wes Pendleton singled and scored in the win.

Travis Delgado looked every bit the Eagles ace on Friday.

Delgado went four innings, allowing just an unearned run on two hits.

He walked one and fanned 10 Providence batters.

In all, Delgado, Wes Pendleton, Alex Chew and Sam Karp combined to strike out 14.

Marshall fanned nine separate Pirates batters, including five who struck out twice.
