Baseball:
Damien earned the Baseline League’s No. 2 seed on Monday afternoon.
The Spartans edged Los Osos, 4-3, by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in the first of a three-game set with the Grizzlies.
With two games to play, DHS has a three-game lead over third-place Upland.
Four Damien errors cost the boys in green three unearned runs.
Ryan Wentworth went five innings and he was charged with three unearned runs on six hits.
Wentworth issued three walks and registered seven strikeouts.
Isaiah Seawright was credited with the win after going a scoreless seventh inning, allowing one hit, a walk and he fanned a pair of LOHS batters.
Dominic Rodriguez walked, singled and scored.
Wyatt Mohler singled, scored and drove in a run on a ground out.
Moses Lanza walked and his RBI double in the top of the fifth tied the game at 2-2.
Two batters later, Taylor Chairez tripled Lanza home and the Grizzlies led, 3-2.
Sean Brian walked and singled.
Aaron Ziello and Brody Gomez had one single apiece for the Grizzlies.
Jordan Mejico went all six-plus innings.
He surrendered four runs on seven hits.
Mejico walked four and struck out seven Damien batters.
Michael Mansour had an RBI ground out in the third and an RBI double in the seventh to tie the game at 3-3.
Brady Bickham went 2-for-4, including his game-winning RBI single that plated Mansour.
Aiden East went 3-for-3 and scored half of Damien’s four runs.
Ryan Gonzalez singled and Jackson Annigain had an RBI ground out in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Elius Kelly walked and scored.
