Entering this final week of the regular season, the Lady Minutemen knew they needed to win this match to stay in the hunt for an automatic berth into the CIF-SS playoffs.

They put together a complete effort today in defeating the Heralds, 14-4.

Maranatha was paced once again by their singles lineup, who won 8 of 9 sets on the day.

The most thrilling of those wins was the final set of the day, which saw senior Grace Yang battle back from being down triple set point, 2-5, 0-40, to win the set’s final 5 games to prevail, 7-5.

The doubles unit continues to show improvement and won the doubles matchup, 6-3, an improvement over the 5-4 outcome in their first meeting.

They were swept by Whittier Christian’s top doubles team in their last encounter.

Today, the duo of Jennifer Chu/Natalia Kalajian upended them, 6-4, on their way to a sweep on the day.

Singles:
Hannah Su – 6-3, 6-0, 6-0
Sarah Fong – 6-2, 6-1, 6-0
Grace Yang – 3-6, 7-5, 6-1

Doubles:
Jennifer Chu/Natalia Kalajian – 6-4, 6-3, 6-2
Peony Liu/Catherine Hayes – 1-6, 6-1, 6-0
Franziska Ries/Chloe Soh – 0-6, 6-2
Franziska Ries/Hannalee Trout – 2-6

With the win, the Lady Minutemen improve to 8-4 overall and 2-3 in league.

Up next: MHS will host Valley Christian on Thursday and will attempt to atone for last week’s 13-5 loss to the Defenders, when Yang was out of the lineup.

Thursday is also Senior Day, as seniors Grace Yang and Jennifer Chu will play the final regular season home match of their careers.
