Baseball:
West Covina snapped a four-game Valle Vista League losing streak on Wednesday.
After a pair of two-game sweeps at the hand of Covina and Northview, respectively, the Bulldogs finally secured a VVL victory.
WCHS scored six times in the bottom of the second inning, and they withstood a late Raiders’ rally.
Cristian Lazo went six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits to earn the win.
Lazo issued one walk and registered seven strikeouts.
Griffey Moncada was charged with two runs (one earned) on three walks over 2/3 of an inning.
Rob Melendez got the final out for West Covina.
Noah Sanchez went 3-for-4, including a solo home run.
Logan Dwyer doubled and scored.
Nicholas Adoure walked, doubled and scored.
Sonny O’Neal walked, singled in a run and scored.
CJ Carrillo singled and drove in a run on a sac fly.
Jose Valadez and David Garcia had one single apiece.
Valadez got the loss after surrendering six runs (five earned) on six hits, two walks and a pair of hit batters over 1 2/3 innings.
Joaquin Diaz was hit by pitch, doubled in three runs in the bottom of the second.
Joseph Castillo walked, singled and scored.
Andrew Maldonado singled and scored.
Levi Ruiz went 2-for-3.
Gabriel Diaz walked, singled, scored and was hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
Ethan Okazaki singled in a run and scored.
Rieleigh Rangel drew a bases loaded walk and scored.
Danny Pineda reached on an error and came around to score.
