Etiwanda Withstands 47 Points from Joaquin Tovera in Tuesday’s 75-72 Baseline League Victory Over Chino Hills

Etiwanda saved their best in Tuesday’s Baseline League showdown with their visitors from Chino Hills.

Trailing by 13 points at the break, the Eagles went on a 42-26 run in the second half, including a 27-13 advantage in the fourth period to edge the Huskies, 75-72.

EHS handed CHHS its first Baseline League loss, and they snapped their seven-game win streak.

They also withstood a 47-point effort from Chino Hills senior, Joaquin Tovera.

Tovera high five 3-pointers, and he scored 22 of his 47 points in CHHS’ 34-point second quarter.

Alex Criner contributed eight points and Akello Rasshan had seven.

Devin Mitchell led EHS with 23 points, including 18 in the decisive fourth period.

Sam Funn chipped in with 17 points.

Funn headed into the final eight minutes having gone 4-for-8 from the free-throw line.

But the Eagles senior hit all four of his chances from the charity stripe down the stretch.

Armaun Pollock and Achilles Orji added 12 points apiece in the win.

Up next: The Eagles will travel to Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday evening.
