Boys Basketball:
Sports can be unpredictable at times.
Take Rancho Cucamonga for example.
The Cougars hosted Damien on Tuesday, and they entered the game on a four-game Baseline League win streak, including a 60-58 upset of Etiwanda six days prior in Rancho Cucamonga.
Two weeks ago, in their first showdown at Damien, the Spartans edged the Cougars by six points.
That gets us to Tuesday night.
Damien traveled to RCHS tied with Etiwanda atop the Baseline League standings, and Rancho Cucamonga was just one-game back of the Eagles and Spartans.
Unfortunately for the Cougars, though, they couldn’t find an offensive rhythm until the second half, and they fell to the Spartans, 62-38.
RCHS managed just five points apiece in the first and second quarters.
Xavier Clinton made five 3-pointers and had a game-high 21 points.
Nate Garcia added 20 for the boys in green and white.
Aaron Glass led Rancho Cucamonga on 3-pointers made (3) and points scored (12).
Diego Murguia had eight points and Kam Gardner finished with six.
Up next: Damien will host Etiwanda on Thursday in a winner-take-all scenario for the Baseline League championship.
RCHS will host fourth-place Upland in their regular season finale.
