Baseball:

Glendora picked up the two-game sweep of Colony on Friday.

The Tartans defeated the visiting Titans, 10-2.

Johnnie Valdez continues to greatly impact his new team after sitting out 30 days.

Valdez got the win, going four innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits to earn the win.

He walked one and struck out six.

Last Friday, in his first game as a Tartan, Valdez struck out 10 Alta Loma batters in seven innings of work

Braydon Wooldridge struck out three over his two scoreless and hitless innings in relief and Michael Moses closed the door in the seventh.

Moses didn’t allow a hit or walk and struck out one.

Connor Rangel had an RBI base hit for Colony.

Cade Willis got the loss after allowing six runs (three in the first and three more in the second inning) on five hits.

Willis walked three and struck out a pair of GHS batters.

Matt Gonzales walked twice and scored both times.

Jeff Isenhart singled, doubled, drove in two and scored twice.

Braydon Wooldridge had a memorable Friday.

During the afternoon, Wooldridge walked twice, doubled, scored twice and had an RBI, not to mention his two scoreless innings on the hill.

And later that night, he led the Tartans with 20 points in a five-point victory over Claremont.

Carson Collett walked, singled, doubled and drove in four runs.

Shane Mion had an RBI base hit in the win.

Valdez singled and scored twice.

Up next: GHS will travel to Downey on Monday at 3, and then finish the week off with a Wednesday and Friday showdown with Bonita.

Quotable:

GHS coach, Dan Henley: “Johnnie Valdez has had a tremendous impact on this year’s squad. He demonstrated great resilience with the loss of his beloved Grandfather a month ago as he was preparing for his senior season. He has stepped in as a clutch two-way player with big performances on the mound and in the field. He’s a leader and knows how to play the game the right way. We did what we had to do this week by sweeping Colony. This is a competitive league and every win moving forward means something.”
