Baseball:
What a way to open Valle Vista League play for Charter Oak.
The Chargers entered their first game of the new VVL having lost three games in a row and five of their last six.
But Zack Bauer instantly changed their mind set on Wednesday.
Bauer threw a one-hit shutout in Charter Oak’s 12-0 victory over Covina.
Bauer walked two and struck out six.
It took him just 80 pitches to get the job done.
Ryan Perez singled to account for the Colts offense.
Andrew Frausto was saddled with the loss.
Frausto was charged with six first-inning runs (none earned) on four hits.
Charter Oak got six more runs off of Steven Lona on 12 hits.
Nine different Chargers’ batters had at least one hit and six had two or more.
Anthony Vasquez singled twice, doubled, scored and drove in four runs.

Evan Avitia singled twice, scored two runs and had an RBI.
Chris Ceballos singled, doubled and scored two runs, and Gabriel Rico singled, doubled, drove in two and scored once.
Alejandro Blanquet singled, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice.
Bauer had an RBI base hit to help his own cause.
Aaron Osorio singled twice and scored and Chris Sanchez singled and scored.
Ethan Milleson singled, doubled, scored and drove in one run.
Up next: The Chargers will travel to Covina High School on Friday to close out their two-game series.
