College Baseball:
Cal State San Bernardino made some history on Monday.
The Coyotes earned their first NCAA Division 2 World Series game victory in Cary, North Carolina.
CSUSB defeated the University of Indianapolis, 10-8, in a game that wasn’t nearly as close as the final score might indicate.
The Coyotes scored six runs in the third and they took a 9-2 lead in the sixth.
Indy rallied with five in the game’s final frame.
Seth Spencer took the loss after surrendering six runs (four earned) on seven hits over three innings.
Spencer issued three walks and didn’t register a strikeout.
DeShawn Johnson went 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs and a pair of RBIs.
Jason Shedlock singled, doubled and scored a pair of runs.
Giovanni Del Negro went 3-for-6, scoring twice and driving in two.
Daryl Ruiz drew three walks and scored twice.
Riley Parker walked, had two singles and an RBI.
Garrett Macias went 2-for-4 with one run and an RBI.
Danny Garcia walked, singled, scored and had one RBI.
Takuto Kataoka walked, had a sac fly and finished with two RBIs.
Dylan O’Connor got the win.
O’Connor went five innings and allowed two runs on five hits.
He didn’t issue a walk and fanned three Indy batters.
Benny Olguin provided three innings of relief, and he surrendered just one run on two hits.
Olguin walked three and struck out a pair.
Isaac Bair had an RBI double in the fourth and a three-run HR in the ninth.
Brandon DeWitt went 2-for-4 with a walk, run and two RBIs.
Caleb Vaughn walked, singled twice and scored a pair of runs.
Denton Shepler walked, singled twice and scored.
Drew Donaldson singled and scored.
Zack Williams singled, scored and had one RBI.
Up next: The Coyotes face top-seeded Millersville on Wednesday morning at 10:30 our time.
San Bernardino is now 1-1 in North Carolina.
This past Saturday, Rollins College defeated CSUSB, 7-1, in the D-2 series opener.
